Thoughts From Our Pastor

Beloved Church -

On March 30, 2025, journalist Rachel Martin asked New York Times Bestselling Author and popular YouTuber, John Green, this question:

“What’s a lesson you keep learning again and again?”

First of all, what a great question. How might you answer that question?

...

John Green has authored several popular young adult novels, including, “The Fault in Our Stars,” and recently wrote a non-fiction book, “Everything is Tuberculosis.” Maybe you’ve read his books, maybe you’ve never ever heard of him. A few things about John Green: he’s a Christian (practicing Episcopalian) and he’s very open about his mental health struggles.

...

“What’s a lesson you keep learning again and again?”

“Oh, what a great question. I keep learning again and again that hope is the right response to the human condition. And I have to learn this over and over again because despair is an incredibly powerful force in my life and something that I have to battle on an almost daily basis.”

I keep learning again and again that hope is the right response to the human condition.

Hope is the right response to the human condition.

Hope is the faithful response to the human condition.

He’s correct, isn't he? Despair can be an incredibly powerful force. But despair does not get the last word. We, as Christ-followers, we find our hope rooted in the grace of God, the redemptive love of Christ, and the ongoing inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Think of Christ’s final words, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” We can’t help but rest assured that Christ gets the final word, not despair. And our challenge is to live like we believe it.

Imagine what could be possible, when hope gets the final word.

See you in church,

Pastor Molly
