Thoughts From Our Pastor

It’s good to be home. Chris and I spent a wonderful week in West Virginia for my family’s annual trip there. We had great weather and a great trip!

When we returned home last Sunday, I was anxious to see the garden. I was grateful for my father-in-law, who faithfully watered it everyday, but I didn’t know what it would look like. All spring and summer I’d been carefully pruning; picking tomatoes as soon as they began to blush; moving plants around so they didn’t get sun scald.

Imagine my surprise when we walked outside and the garden was full and abundant.

Turns out, sometimes the best thing you can do is make sure the plants have enough water and then just leave them alone. It was the most abundant “harvest” of the year so far! No pruning, no rearranging, no early picking…and everything still grew. Even the weeds weren’t too bad. It sounded familiar to me...something about us planting seeds and watering, but God giving the growth...(1 Corinthians 3:6-7).

Sometimes, the best thing you can do with something that’s going well, is just leave it alone. Let it grow. Let it thrive!

Once again, this isn't just a lesson about gardening.
